The story behind StraightUp

I built the tool I needed.
Now you can use it too.

StraightUp exists because hearing your own thinking clearly, before the noise gets to it, is harder than it should be.

John Cronin

Founder

I've spent years building things. The one lesson I keep relearning: when my own head is clear, everything downstream gets better. When it is not, nothing does.

When your mind is scattered, your decisions suffer. When you lose touch with what matters, you drift. When you stop reflecting, you start reacting - and that is when things fall apart.

"I didn't build StraightUp because I had it all figured out. I built it because I didn't - and I needed something to help me stay clear."

I tried plenty of things over the years. Some helped, most didn't stick. What I really needed was something that met me where I was - something that helped me hear my own thoughts, not run me through someone else's framework.

So I built a system for myself. Two-minute check-ins. Weekly reviews that forced a little honesty. A place to keep the lessons I kept forgetting. And a mirror that handed my own words back to me when I needed them.

And it worked. Not because the technology was magic, but because the process of showing up for yourself - consistently, honestly - changes how you think.

Why I'm sharing it

I'm building Rookd to fix trust in housing. The stakes are high. The pressure is real. And StraightUp is the tool I built for myself along the way - a place to hear my own thinking before the noise gets to it.

StraightUp is a Transparency Technologies product, sister to Rookd, and it runs on FideMaster. Same belief across all of it: people have it in them, and most of us do not need more answers - we need to hear our own.

When I shared my system with other people who push themselves hard, they asked the same question: "Can I use this?"

So now you can.

StraightUp is not a task manager, though it will help you focus on what matters. It is not a journal, though it will help you remember who you are when things get loud. It is a quiet place to think out loud, and a memory that hands your own words back to you.

It is a place to hear yourself clearly, and to keep showing up for your own thinking.

Who this is for

High achievers

You carry a lot and set the bar high. This is where you get honest with yourself before the next decision, not after it.

Fast, restless minds

If your thoughts move quicker than your typing, talk. If a routine breaks, nothing breaks - coming back is the feature, not the failure.

Anyone who wants to hear themselves

You do not need more advice. You need to hear what you already know, said back to you clearly.

What we believe

01

Your thoughts are private.

We don't sell your data. We don't train on your reflections. Your inner life stays yours.

02

Consistency beats intensity.

Two minutes a day is better than two hours once a month. We designed for sustainable practice.

03

It helps you think, never for you.

There is technology under the hood, but it stays there. The thinking is yours, and so are the conclusions.

04

Tools should be honest.

We're not here to make you feel good. We're here to help you see clearly.
